Delegate forums begin

11 March, 2008

This year’s first round of delegate forums kicks off next week in Wellington and the focus is on building the EPMU and getting membership involved in the union’s democratic processes.

This year delegates at the forums will also be voting for candidates to attend the EPMU’s biennial conference and discussing the issues they want raised. There will also be the opportunity to discuss and vote on remits for conference.

EPMU national education coordinator Glen Mitchell says the forums play a very important part in the EPMU’s democratic process. “The forums are a great platform for delegates to provide input into the direction of the union.”

“Right now members should be talking to their delegates about the issues they want raised and should be encouraging their delegates to attend.

“We’ve got more than two thousand delegates nationwide,” he says, “and they are a crucial link between the union and its members especially in conference year that’s why they need to get to the forums.”

The first forum is at the Petone Workingmen’s Club in Wellington on Wednesday the 12th and forums run nationwide until May 2nd.

This year there will be only one round of forums so it is important that delegates ensure they attend.

Members who want remits taken to conference should provide them to their delegates so they can be put up at the forums.
