After recent mediation, negotiations with the Automobile Association have produced a signed terms of settlement that the EPMU will be taking out to members for ratification over the next few weeks.
Unfortunately the AA released some of the details of the deal to media before affected members had the opportunity to see them for themselves.
EPMU organiser Chris Rigby says the move was extremely unusual and may endanger the settlement. “By taking this to the media and claiming the negotiations are over the AA has run roughshod over standard bargaining protocol and this won’t help to sell the deal.”
“While the AA’s decision to prematurely call the negotiations closed is poor form we’ll still be recommending the deal,” says Rigby, “but now it’s down to the members whether they accept it or not. That’s the democratic process we follow and the AA should have figured that out by now.”
The negotiations have run since late last year and included
national strike action in December.
