Air New Zealand Engineers serve notice of industrial action

30 April, 2008

After several months of negotiations aircraft engineers at Air New Zealand have served the company with fourteen days notice of industrial action.

Notice came after the airline proposed an offer described as their "best shot" over 28 months that annualised to 3.4%.

EPMU national aviation organiser Strachan Crang says members are asking for 5.8%.

"This is the first negotiation since the restructuring in 2006 that saw a significant change in terms and conditions and our members are entitled to a fair share of the gains made during that process."

"Air New Zealand Engineering is currently running at capacity and struggling to get licensed engineers," says Crang, "considering a good deal of the division's increased profits have come due to the hard work of our members we think the airline needs to put up a better offer."

The industrial action will begin with an overtime ban and is set to start on May 9th if Air New Zealand doesn't come back with a better offer.
