Air NZ engineers continue action

27 May, 2008

Engineers at Air New Zealand are heading into their third week of an overtime ban and have also put a ban on towing aircraft as negotiations for a decent pay rise continue.

The escalation of industrial action has been put back a week but Air New Zealand has been notified that if no settlement is reached engineers will stop using their own tools from the 7th of June and will cease all work on Air New Zealand aircraft from the 20th of June.

EPMU national aviation organiser Strachan Crang says membership is determined to get a fair deal.

"These members have been through a lot since the restructuring of their division began in late 2005 and they are committed to making sure they get a fair cut of the gains Air New Zealand has made from that restructuring."

"We have continual feedback from our members," says Crang, "and they are certainly committed to doing what it takes to get the company to make a decent offer."

The negotiations and mediation attempts have lasted more than forty days spread over the three months from February.
