EPMU conference next week

25 June, 2008

The EPMU biennial conference will be held in Auckland from Tuesday to Thursday next week at the Airport Centra.

The conference will include the launch of the EPMU's new Work Rights campaign as well as focusing on the EPMU's climate change policy and the future of manufacturing.

EPMU national secretary Andrew Little says the conference is a core part of the union's democratic structures. "Along with delegate forums, industry councils and our continual consultation with members the conference allows for members to have a direct say in the setting of union policy."

"There will be remits from around the country put up to conference and voted on this year," says Little, "and we are looking to get a solid basis for our climate change policy discussed and decided on as it is an issue that affects all of our members and many of the industries we represent."

Guest speakers for the conference will include Green MP Sue Bradford, CFMEU General President Tony Maher and manufacturing expert Professor Nigel Haworth. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Labour will also attend.
