Metals subsequent parties campaign kicks off

18 August, 2008

EPMU organisers have begun taking the Metals MECA out to sites as the first stage of the campaign to get subsequent parties signed up to the document.

The document was settled two weeks ago and includes a pay increase of 4% over a term of 11 months as well as an increase in the redundancy notice period.

EPMU metals and manufacturing industry organiser Stuart Hurst says the next step is to get as many other sites into the document as possible. "The strength of the metals is that it is a benchmark document and the more members and sites it covers the stronger it becomes as an industry standard."

"If EPMU members want to get their sites into the metals they should ring our support centre or get in touch with their organisers," says Hurst, "and we'll get the ball rolling."

Many sites that have been party to the metals in the past will have already been contacted by their organiser but if you want your site in the document please ring 0800 1 UNION and talk to one of our organisers.
