Protest action at ECL

4 September, 2009

Around 70 EPMU members at NZ Post subsidiary Express Couriers Ltd took protest action in Christchurch last week to draw attention to their claims for a fair pay deal.

Nationally more than 800 workers at ECL are involved in low-level industrial action, which began last week with a work-to-rule in Wellington and Christchurch.

The protest was organised by EPMU organiser John Kerr, who said it's had the desired effect.

"Monday's protest was basically a way for the members in Christchurch to send the boss a message about how people felt.

"There was also some great support on the picket line from members at Air New Zealand and Post who turned up to the rally.

"It seems to have had the desired effect as we're now back in bargaining and hoping we can make some progress in getting a fair deal."

This is the first time workers at ECL have taken industrial action.
