Electrical lines workers strike over clawbacks

23 October, 2009

Electrical lines workers at Delta Utility Services in Dunedin took 24 hours of strike action on Tuesday to protest the company's attempt to claw back conditions.

The Dunedin City Council owned company is trying to change the definition of relevant daily pay and reduce the cap on redundancy from 52 weeks to 26 weeks for new workers.

EPMU organiser Mike Kirwood said the day of action was a success.

"The members had a march through Dunedin and picketed at the Octagon with a lot of public support. We've since been in touch with the company and are hoping to get back to negotiations soon."

"Obviously we're hoping to get this sorted around the table, but at this stage we can't rule out any further action."

The EPMU represents 27 members at Delta Utility Services, including the union's national president, Don Pryde.
