Ex Origin Pacific workers may face a bleak Christmas this year with the airline’s receivers having failed to pay out any of the redundancy or holiday pay owed to them.
Currently the receiver is claiming the members’ entitlements will not be determined until “late December” and there has been no indication of when payments will be made.
EPMU Organiser Libi Carr says the situation is disgusting. “These workers were dropped like hotcakes when Origin collapsed in August, they had no holiday pay, no redundancy, nothing - to be still waiting for what’s owed to them four months later and with Christmas coming up is unacceptable.”
“These staff were hugely loyal to the airline and are the reason it was able to carry on so long when management were constantly churning,” says Carr, “and for them to be treated like this now is just wrong.”
The union will be contacting the receivers within the next week
to clarify whether members will be able to receive payment before
Christmas.
