Aussie unionists visit Coast

Members of Australian Union the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union and their kids spent last weekend on the West Coast seeing the sights, playing some rugby league and catching up with kiwi union members.

The weekend was organised around an under-fifteen league tournament and gave coasters the chance to catch up with the Australian miners and their families.

EPMU organiser Matt Winter says the visit was a good chance to compare notes with union members from across the ditch. “Australian companies are a growing presence in our mining industry and being able to talk about the Aussie situation over a beer was bloody useful.”

“The guys and their kids had a great time here,” says Winter, “between the league and seeing the sights they got a real taste of West Coast hospitality.”
