Scott workers win extra week’s leave

20 December, 2007

EPMU members at Scott Automation in Christchurch and Dunedin have managed to retain their long service leave following a three week campaign of industrial action that involved an total overtime ban and a full day of strike action.

The extra week’s long service leave will kick in at eight years, and comes on top of a 4.5% pay increase and redundancy protections.

EPMU organiser Juanita Willems says members at Scott showed the power of collective action.

“It’s disappointing our members were forced to take strike action to protect their long service leave, but they understood that sometimes you need to stand up for your rights if you want to protect them.

“We’ve managed to keep the extra week’s lave even though the company were determined to take it, so our members can be very proud of what they’ve achieved.”

The deal was ratified overwhelmingly.
